Katahdin sheep

The latest addition to the homestead is a small flock of katahdin sheep. This is a breed of ‘haired’ sheep which means they shed and do not need to be sheared. We bought 7 ewes and a ram that are just over a year old. The girls should all be expecting so we are looking forward to lambs in a few months. Normally I wouldn’t choose to have animals giving birth during the cold months, however, these girls were already bred when they arrived. It just means we will have to be very watchful as the time approaches and help as needed.
